Viewing Wildlife... Sea Kayaking in the Isle of Man

One of my main motivations to kayak is the opportunity to view wildlife unobtrusively. Close encounters from the kayak, as well as locations which only a kayak can access...

Living in the Isle of Man means you can make the most of every day, with so much to dos so close to home : ) Even remote locations within 20-30 mins drive!

Monday was a week day paddle across to the Calf of Man, a gem set just south of Our Island... with Andy and Liam. Native horned Loaghtan Sheep and spring lambs grazing near the sea, Atlantic Grey seals basking in the sunshine, a blissful peace and tranquility, protected by a conveyer belt of water : )

With the following day's conditions looked equally delightful, I kept the kayaks on the roof of the Defender, and enjoyed yet another blissful paddle, this time along the south east coast from Port St Mary, to Sugarloaf caves.

Common Shelduck, Mallard, Great Cormorant, European Shag, Grey Heron, Oyster Catcher, Ruddy Turnstone, Great Black-Backed Gull, Black Guillemot, Eurasian Curlew, Fulmar...

... and the first bands of Common Guillemot have begun arriving to colonise the Sugarloaf Rock and surrounding sea cliffs for the annual breeding season : )
